GREGORY DEAN
I’ve always been a wayfaring kind of guy, a traveler through life. Wood and woodworking tools have had a special place in my life from a very young age, but I didn’t feel compelled to take these things seriously until my 30’s. I felt the need to roam the world and explore many avenues of opportunity first.

I went to college and sought a degree in “shop.” Industrial Technology it was labelled at Metropolitan State (then) College of Denver. The beauty of this degree is that I was exposed to a wide variety of materials and processes beyond wood that I use in everyday life and design. Degree in hand, I wasn’t done wandering yet. More travels, teaching useful skills in exotic lands, exploring the wonders of earth and humanity.

Eventually I did settle down to raise my daughter, got a regular job, and built a woodshop at home, turning out 3-5 pieces a year. The kidlet got all grown up, graduated college and is an explorer in her own right. That allowed me the freedom to move from the big city back to my family’s roots in the Uncompahgre valley. I built a new shop and focus on design and building exceptional pieces unhindered by conventional notions of what furniture should be.

We live in extraordinary times. Now is a time when people are pursuing their own life’s passions, advancing their own creativity, and we have the technology and resources to create anything. (Anything!) Truly amazing. And I’m happy to do my part.
