IRENE KELLEY
Irene Kelley began her journey as a professional musician in a rock band at 15, but when she brought a Dolly Parton album to band rehearsal one day, she was fired on the spot. It was, perhaps, the best thing that could have happened to her.

When Irene Kelley permanently left her native Pennsylvania to move to Nashville in 1984 , she brought along her guitar, a handful of original material, and a love for traditional and bluegrass music. She was signed to MCA Nashville’s country division and two singles were released, and they both charted on Billboard. Irene then took some time to focus on writing music and raising her two young daughters. During this period, she enjoyed success as a songwriter and scored cuts for artists such as Ricky Skaggs & Sharon White, Loretta Lynn, Trisha Yearwood & others.

Fast forward to 1999 when Kelley decided to record an indie record, “Simple Path” for Relentless Nashville. This garnered her several invitations to appear on the Grand Ole Opry. Upon her first performance on the Opry, country superstar, Alan Jackson happened to be listening to the show from his truck radio and promptly called Irene’s publisher to ask if he could record her song, “I’m A Little Bluer Than That” for his upcoming Drive LP. He also asked if Irene could put a harmony vocal on the track. More than three decades later, Irene has assumed her place in a long line of great American songwriters.

Irene then released four more full length indie albums, 3 of which are bluegrass and her latest, “Snow White Memories”, features an all-star cast of players, singers, and co-writers. The album was co-produced with her daughter, Justyna Kelley and features 2 songs of which all 3 Kelleys are singing. The album has garnered 4 number one singles for multiple weeks on the Bluegrass Today singles chart.

Music historian Robert K. Oermann sums up her great gifts this way: “As a vocalist, Irene Kelley glows with beauty and expressiveness. As a songwriter, she shines with a luster that few of her peers can match. This is music to cleanse the soul. This is music to raise you up. This is music to touch your heart.”
